You only feel bad if you can feel

Each year

more people die from suicide

than from all the world’s armed conflicts

An issue America will undoubtedly solve

with increased military spending

while also continuing the harvest of occupied Afghanistan’s poppy supply

(they produce 90% of the world’s opium)

which will then be made into overpriced prescription pain killers

whose exorbitant costs will be subsidized

using the public’s own money

in the form of a private health insurance subscription discount

as negotiated by the host of The Celebrity Apprentice

& not the host of The Celebrity Apprentice who actually has governing experience,

the other one.

But yeah, the shocking part is that people are killing themselves.

  1. I’m glad you’re blogging again. You’ve raised an important issue. I don’t have a solution, but I suspect it will come from people of good intent trying to help others and not from government.

  2. I’m so very glad to see you back! Searching for a favorite line in this poem and having trouble deciding which to pick. “occupied Afghanistan?” “an issue america will undoubtedly solve…?”

    And…my brother was one.

    Thanks for writing.

  3. The post is sad but interesting. I haven’t been blogging but now I’m back. Catching up on my emails. Glad to read your posts again.

  4. If this is your latest work, I am afraid to tell you that you may have taken a sharp wrong turn off your flowery path towards optimism. Here I was thinking that I am finally going to witness a fellow pessimist turn into an optimist…oh well. Wherever you are on that self-love journey, I hope it’s coming along well but fam, this post might just indicate otherwise. At least it’s informative although being African and a witness to a lot of armed conflict/death, I most certainly disagree with your introductory statement/statistic.

  5. As a depressive myself, that shit creeps me out! Well said. Since this blog posted 3 months ago, 2 people I knew OD’d on horse and another relapsed after nine month clean so badly, I barely recognized him that last time he came around asking for $$. Good stuff, my man. Thanks for the props, 2.

  6. Thank you for commenting on my blog: “Expanding Brands or Transitioning in Careers.” Your blog is awesome. I like your approach to writing and the way you designed your page with precision.
