People often ask me what pens I use to develop ideas

which is a fair question.

I have these old pens that use real paint

but got recalled a while back

because kids were using them to get high.

So I use those pens,

then I come up with an idea

go to my computer

and actually do some writing.

  1. I find that my ideas come and go too quickly, so a computer is necessary since my handwriting becomes illegible scratches on the page the faster i try to put thought to pen.

    • That’s me too! My handwriting wasn’t much to begin with. Then with typing on the computer all these years, it’s barely readable. I do write in a paper diary every morning, but I’m very careful and I print.

  2. I have these huge 3′ x 5′ post it notes and I plaster my wall with them, use a variety of sharpies to draw, map out ideas, then I sit in my ox blood chair, my feet on my ottoman and I still write crap. It’s better crap than it used to be and not as good as it will be. But that’s my process.

  3. I like pens sometimes. When you just need to go and its messy and dirty and just take everything out of yur mind and uts i on a page, then when you need to package it up you can write it up all nice and neat like. *sage nod* I miss gel pens, and black paper

  4. I see what you did there…”use those pens and come up with an idea” instead of the other way around. šŸ˜‰

  5. I will only use Pilot 1.0 blue gel ink pens to do my writing. I mostly write on the computer, but I always have a notebook and one of these pens in my purse and in my work bag so that I can write whenever the mood strikes me. I like these pens because they glide across the page, and they sort of penetrate the paper like old felt tip pens do. For editing, I use a .5 mechanical pencil. Funny how we writers just have our quirks when it comes to the process of creation (and deconstruction!)

  6. A few colleagues keep recommending their pens and the soothing effect of writing. But i’m to much of a chicken to use them.

  7. am i the only one who uses a pencil?because my ideas are so conflicting, dirty and irrelevant. most of the time i have to erase whole paragraphs, pause, rephrase and put them on paper again..before they are safe for the public mind.

  9. I’ve seen you like a gazillion of my posts so I decided to check you out. Nicely written, I’m glad I came over to take a look. I’m a writer myself, and I’d love it if you took the time to check out my small blog. Atm its mainly short stories and a bit of poetry, but I’m working on a novel (Prologue is on my blog). Feel free to check it out, keep blogging and have a good day šŸ™‚

  10. I like really fine pens. When I find that special pen, it is all I use until it is used up or lost which is often the case because other people like fine pens too and often convince mine to walk away with them…lol

  11. …its like painting a picture of your thoughts with the ‘ol paint pens’ in order to come up with an idea, that you then take to the computer………..or………not………mostly not…..yea….
